I undertook the first wave placement at the Escuela de Arte, Cordoba, where I made six bodies of work which I presented in a solo exhibition at the end of my stay. My art page, with documentation of the work made, can be visited at www.facebook.com/motelism - click 'like' to follow.
'Made in Córdoba' is the final solo exhibition of works made during an artist residency at the Escuela de Arte, Córdoba, Southern Spain. Bodies of work:
Córdoba Yellow
A collection of artworks made on found papers acting as a visual document of the time spent in Spain, featuring religious imagery, botanical drawings made on site from the art school garden, events and happenings, found imagery and Spanish words and phrases. Presented in series on workbenches with the Doloroso and No Entiendo bodies of work.
Doloroso
A collection of artworks made on found papers illustrating the Semana Santa festival in Andalusia, featuring religious drawings and text and found images.
No Entiendo
A series of hand drawn monoprints that record my learning of the Spanish language, which began from nothing before the residency.
Para Mis Abuelas
Installation comprising two candles traditionally bought to burn in churches in memory of deceased loved ones.
Tequiero
Large collection of photographs taken in Andalusia presented in a digital projection during the exhibition.
Selected Ceramics
A large body of ceramic works, made with tiles and surfaces salvaged from the art school, exploring Andalusian and Spanish approaches to ceramics, mark making and visual art. Selected works from the series were displayed with wood salvaged from the art school on plinths along one wall and on a trestle table made from A-frames taken from the metal workshops at the school.
